Kelso businesses have been urged to create eye-catching window displays at the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain.

The winning display will receive a £400 advertising voucher for Greatest Hits Radio (Scottish Borders and North Northumberland).

The event is set to bring professional cycling teams and riders to the town, starting September 3.

Community festivities are planned for the day, including live music, activities for all ages, and a Tour Village in The Square.

ITV’s cycling commentary and analysis team of Ned Boulting, David Millar, and Pete Kennaugh will host their podcast Never Strays Far at the Tait Hall for a live event.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.scotborders.gov.uk/tourofbritain.

The window dressing competition encourages businesses to put up cycling-based themes or red, white, and blue displays by August 26.

Participants must also complete an entry form at www.scotborders.gov.uk/tourofbritain before midnight on August 26.

Decorations must be kept up until September 3.

A treasure trail competition linked to the decorated windows will be developed to promote exploration of the town.

Councillor Scott Hamilton, executive member for community and business development, said: "The window dressing competition offers a fantastic opportunity for Kelso businesses to get involved, and the treasure trail will encourage footfall across the town.

"As we’ve seen in previous years, the Tour of Britain attracts great crowds at the start and finish and along the route, and we want to ensure that our local businesses make the most of the influx of people in the first week of September.

"I encourage all businesses within Kelso to grab the opportunity to get involved."
