MELROSE marked the return of Kings of the Sevens in style – taking victory in Peebles.
The 2024-25 circuit kicked off at the Gytes on Saturday (August 3) as part of an action-packed ‘festival’ of sevens rugby.
The Greenyards men – who prior to the weekend had last triumphed in Peebles back in 2018 – found themselves in pool A alongside Watsonians and Edinburgh Accies.
The Borderers came out on top in both their group fixtures to book their spot in the semi finals.
Their opponents in the last four were Kelso, who also had two wins under their belt after beating Gala 22-0 and Biggar 31-15.
On the other side of the contest, Orkney progressed out of pool C at the expense of the hosts and Berwick.
And in pool D, an all-Borders affair, Jed-Forest pipped Hawick and Selkirk to make it out.
Melrose confirmed their place in the showpiece event with a 21-12 victory over the side from Poynder Park.
Jed-Forest comfortably saw off Orkney 40-10 in the other semi final.
But it was Melrose’s day, defeating the Jedburgh side 24-12 to lift the trophy.
Next up is the Gala Sevens on August 17 before a long sevens break until the spring.
