IT’S time for the auditions for Tweed Theatre’s 2024 Christmas show – the theatrical event of the year.
This winter’s production is ringing the changes as it is not a pantomime, but is the masterwork of Roald Dahl’s The Twits, adapted as a show for children, with a Hollywood film to be made of it in 2025.
The show requires 10 children, aged 10 and above. Roles are quite physical with monkeys as performers and bird puppets to be operated. Adult parts number six.
A spokesperson said: “The revolting Mr and Mrs Twit are a shocking, stupid, cunning and silly couple who dislike everybody and constantly play nasty practical jokes on one another.
“They keep a family of monkeys, kidnapped from Africa, the Muggle-Wumps, in a cage and want to create a monkey circus.
“Mr and Mrs Twit also have plans to capture the local bird life and make them into bird pie! Another bird, the magnificent roly poly bird, an old friend of the monkeys, arrives from Africa and sets about organising the downfall of the vile couple.
“Come along if you want to be part of the Dahl-icious fun and nonsense in this great family show.”
Readings and auditions take place in the Masonic Hall, Northgate, Peebles, on Sunday (August 18) from 2-4pm.
