TWEED Green goers could get the chance to gaze at the stars this winter thanks to an astronomy club initiative.

The Tweeddale Astronomical Society held free sky-gazing sessions using portable telescopes as an experiment in the spring.

It is now looking to do the same again during autumn and winter.

On behalf of the club, John Davies said: “It’s the same deal, three or four small telescopes staffed by volunteers. No power or cables. No money changing hands.

“The best slots seem to be evenings a couple of days either side of October 10, November 9 and December 8 as they offer a decent half moon, plus Jupiter, Saturn and maybe Mars.”

The club’s plans will be noted at this week’s meeting of the Peebles Common Good Fund sub committee.
