A primary school in Galashiels has launched a campaign to connect with the community and businesses.

Burgh Primary School, which is set to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025, has launched the 'Club 150 Campaign'.

The initiative aims to connect the school with the community, local businesses, and former pupils to support school initiatives through donations of time, money, or resources.

The Scottish Building Society on Bank Street, which recently celebrated its 175th anniversary, became the first 'Club 150' member, donating £150.

The society will also visit the school to discuss careers in finance and money management with the pupils.

Club 150 was established by parents at Burgh Primary School to support various educational, environmental, cultural, and sporting experiences for pupils during the school's 150th year.

The campaign also encourages parents and locals to volunteer their time to assist with children's learning in areas such as reading, cooking, or improving their sporting skills.

Jill Crook from the Scottish Building Society said: "We are a building society with a strong commitment to the communities we operate in.

"As one of the oldest names on Gala's Bank St, we have had many members who attended the Burgh trust us with providing a safe and rewarding home for their savings.

"It is a pleasure to be able to support this project and I’m sure we will be the first of many businesses to sign up."

Dave Scott from Burgh Parent Council said: ‘‘We are delighted that Scottish Building Society have become the first members of Club 150.

"This donation will go toward providing our pupils with a range of special experiences during the school’s anniversary.

"We’ve already had a number of other local businesses offer to become involved in Club 150 and we hope that other groups and individuals in the community with long standing links to the oldest school in Galashiels can get onboard and make 2025 a year to remember for everyone connected to the Burgh."
