Doors opening for free at cultural sites in the Borders

Celebrating its 35th year, Doors Open Days is a national event that provides free access to sites and activities throughout Scotland, promoting awareness of the country’s built and cultural heritage and ensuring it is accessible to all.

Events in the Borders will be taking place across September 7 and 8, allowing the region to showcase the places for which it is known for including some lesser-known hidden gems.

Events taking place include:

• Free guided tours of Borders Distillery
• The chance to explore Channelkirk Church
• See behind the scenes at TD9 Radio, where visitors will see live programmes being broadcast and have a look around the studios
• Walks around the largest Roman fort site north of Hadrian’s Wall – Trimontium Fort

Councillor Simon Mountford, Scottish Borders Council’s executive member for estate management and planning, said: “It is fantastic that we can showcase our amazing buildings as part of Doors Open Days.

“The event provides a free behind-the-scenes experience for both local visitors and those from further afield.

“Doors Open Day presents an exciting opportunity each year, and for its 35th anniversary there is a wide range of properties throwing their doors open. I encourage anyone interested to take part, and to step inside these properties.”
