A CONVICTED sex offender who admitted three offences has received a 16-month prison sentence at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Christopher Garrard, 46, pleaded guilty to breaching the terms of his Sexual Offences Prevention Order by failing to make a device capable of accessing the internet available to police and also failing to notify police of a change of address.

Garrard also pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children at a house in Witchwood Crescent, Peebles, in February.

Defence lawyer Ross Dow explained his client had been remanded in custody since February which was the equivalent of a year-long prison sentence.

But Sheriff Peter Paterson said the third charge highlighted how Garrard still had an interest in indecent images of children and a community-based disposal would not be appropriate.

The 16-month jail sentence was back-dated to February 29.

Garrard was also made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act for the next 10 years.
