CREATING posters and banners for artist volunteer led ‘Open-Studios Innerleithen’ is a little easier after a £2,000 funding boost from Destination Tweed.
‘Open-Studios Innerleithen’ is a collection of artists who annually get together on one weekend to promote and exhibit art around Innerleithen.
Now in its third year, the events will be on Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29.
Art is displayed in local businesses, artists studios, and homes which are open for the public to explore over the weekend.
This year’s organiser Rachel Hunter said: “The £2,000 community grant from Destination Tweed, celebrating the river, is great news.
“It will make all the difference for us as in previous years everyone has chipped in for printing and promotion costs.
“It will help us with banners, maps and posters.
“It will also help pay for activities we are running, including walks and talks on the River Tweed multi-use path and the Cleikum Belle trishaw, which will run from Innerleithen to Walkerburn and back.
“Our aim is to shine a light on the massive amount of creativity we have in our town, and bring together our artistic community in the local area.
“This is the festival’s third year since it was established by Muriel Prince, so it is still quite new and for 2024 we are including artists from Walkerburn with which we are delighted.
“I have taken part each year but 2023 was the first time I got involved with planning and organisation.
“There will be a printed map available with all the details and it will be displayed on our Facebook page.
“There are eight studios and in most cases they will be open between 10am and 4pm. Lesley Foster in 11, Chapel Street; Rachel Hunter, 12, Caerlee Mill; Claire Blyth, Room 7, Memorial Hall; Angela Hunter, Buttercup Studio; Hazel McLean 49, Leithen Road. Three are in Walkerburn at the old Tweeddale Mill building: Hannah Cornish, Studio 2; Bruce Joyce in Studio 1 and Ann Louise Keiran.”
There are also about 15 shop and local business windows including Durty Brewing taproom, Loulabelles Café, The Hub, Lou Lou’s Vintage Emporium, The Flower Bee, Smail’s Printworks, Innerleithen Pharmacy, Haus, No 1 Café, The Framing Gallery and Dirt Track Barbers.
There is also an drop-in evening event on Saturday September 28 in Loulabelle’s Café including artists, musicians and story tellers coming and going.
