A CAMPSITE in Selkirk has seen an increase in popularity with more bookings and longer stays.
Figures from Live Borders show that Selkirk Victoria Campsite has increased revenue by 40 per cent over the summer compared to last year.
The campsite across from Selkirk Leisure centre has fourteen grass pitches and six hardstanding pitches.
Campers are also staying for longer, bookings of more than one night has increased to 58 per cent this year, compared to 31 per cent last year.
Bookings of three nights or more has increase from 15 per cent last year to 40 per cent this year.
Councillor Leagh Douglas, said: “I am encouraged that Selkirk Victoria Campsite is going from strength to strength. With the facility welcoming more visitors and those visitors staying longer this year, it is clear the campsite is making an increasing contribution to the town.
“The data suggests the campsite is finding its feet as a base for holidaymakers, who, this year, have more often than not stayed more than one night.
“With more visitors spending longer in Selkirk, this is creating an exciting opportunity for local businesses and tourist attractions too. I hope this trend will continue.
“We must continue to support the development of the campsite to benefit Selkirk during the rest of this season and in the years to come.”
The site was used as a temporary base for travellers during the Coronavirus pandemic.
