A TRIBUTE has been paid to a Borderer who has raised more than £66,000 for a charity across an incredible 28 years of service.

Isobel Halliday, of Hawick, is one of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland’s (CHAS) most long-standing supporters.

CHAS offers continuous support to children who may die young and their families. The charity provides specialist end-of-life care, respite stays, bereavement advice, hospice at home services and financial support.

Isobel’s journey with CHAS began as a continuation of her sister Mary Stewart and her brother-in-law John’s efforts. Both were passionate supporters of CHAS but tragically John passed away before Rachel House was built in the 1990s.

In his memory, and driven by her own dedication, Isobel took up the mantle and has been tirelessly fundraising ever since.

She began holding car boot sales, making marmalade and jam, and collecting old clothes for sale. In recognition of her extraordinary fundraising efforts Isobel was awarded The British Empire Medal in 2017.

Isobel said: “Raising funds for CHAS has been an incredibly fulfilling part of my life, knowing that it brings comfort to families in their most difficult times. The generosity and support from the community have been amazing, and I am grateful to everyone who has contributed over the years.”

Zhenya Dove, community fundraiser at CHAS, said: “We are so grateful to have the support of Isobel. Every item sold at Isobel’s carboot sales contributes to bringing hope and support to children and their families living all across Scotland.

"Her incredible dedication over nearly three decades helps to ensure that no family has to face the death of their child alone.”
