A PRIZE-WINNING pianist has been brought in as a late replacement for a Peebles concert due to take place next week.
Ukrainian pianist Khyrstyna Mykhailichenko was set to perform at the Music in Peebles concert, but had to withdraw from the performance due to a hand injury.
Mykhailichenko will be replaced by Bulgarian musician Emanuil Ivanov, an advanced diploma student at the Royal Academy of Music.
Ivanov is the winner of the 2019 Busoni competition, he has performed all over the world including a live streamed performance at the La Scala in Milan and had his performances broadcast on Radio 3.
The programme from Ivanoa will include Beethoven’s Sonata in D minor Op.31 no.2 ‘Tempest, Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues nos.5, 14 and 15 Rachmaninov Nine Etudes-Tableaux op.39.
The concert will go ahead as scheduled at the Eastgate Theatre on Tuesday, October 1 at 7.30pm.
Tickets for the event are still available at £20 for individual tickets, discounted tickets for members of other music societies, anyone aged under 26 or anyone accompanying a child under 12. Tickets can be bought from the Eastgate Theatre Box Office (01721 725777).
Other performances later in the Music in Peebles season include Quartetto Noûs, Scozzesi and Roo and Neil.
In February, Song over Scotland will celebrate the tradition of Scottish song heritage and the season will conclude with the annual Patron’s concert with Guna McCormack’s presentation of the “Young Musician’s Showcase”.
