A candidate has thrown his hat in the ring to become the SNP candidate for the Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire constituency at the next Scottish Parliament election.
John Redpath, from Gordon, is currently a SNP activist and previously worked in hospitality and in the Scottish Parliament.
The party has asked potential candidates to come forward and go through the vetting process.
The Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire constituency is currently represented by Rachael Hamilton who has held the seat since 2017 and recently became deputy leader of the Scottish Conservatives.
Mr Redpath believes that he can offer "a fresh start for the area" which is his motivation for running.
He said: “I come from a hardworking family that often struggled to get by but did their utmost to make sure their children had everything they needed and I know this is a story that is emulated across the Borders.
“We have been let down by politicians that are more focused on their own careers than standing up for the Borders. I say it is time for a fresh start.
“I know in my heart I am the best person to represent my party in the upcoming election, that I can make a real difference for the people in this area and I look forward to earning their trust as the campaign unfolds.”
Mr Redpath is currently the only candidate who has come forward for the seat for the SNP so far.
The next Holyrood election is due to take place in May 2026, however, First Minister John Swinney has not ruled out a snap election if the Scottish Budget does not pass through parliament.
