TWO houses in “extremely poor condition” in a Borders town are set to be demolished after the council gave plans the green light.
An application about the properties in East Mains, Milne Graden, in Coldstream was submitted to the local authority back in March.
A statement in support of the bid from agents Richard Amos Ltd said the houses were “well in excess of their expected lifespan”.
It added that they had an “inherent number of faults” including cracks and evidence of water ingress.
“In addition to the structural issues, the houses are extremely poorly insulated,” the report stated. “There is adequate insulation to the flat ceiling of the pitched roof only, but the remainder, including the walls and roof, have no insulation. There would be significant construction challenges in providing adequate insulation to these areas.”
The proposal, put forward by Milne Graden Ltd, was to demolish the existing houses and replace them with two new properties of a similar scale.
Last week the council backed the plans.
