Peebles residents are invited to “light a candle for the world” at Leckie Church this evening.
The Come and Light a Candle for the World event invites residents to “pause and reflect, and to gather together to bring some extra light into the darkness”.
The event starts at 6pm and runs until midnight with residents welcome to join at any time throughout the evening.
A spokesperson for the event said: “With so much unrest and uncertainty in the world today, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless.
“Yet, in a spirit of hope and unity, a local event offers the people of Peebles and beyond, a chance to make a meaningful gesture for restoration and peace.
“The simple act of lighting a candle can be a powerful symbol of hope. It acknowledges the presence of hardship and loss, but also affirms our belief in the potential for healing, harmony and new beginnings.”
There will be three parts to the evening: Create Your Own Lantern, The Light Walk and The Light a Candle for the World.
The Create Your Own Lantern workshop will run from 6pm to 7pm place at Leckie Church where supplies will be provided to create and design a lantern for the light walk later in the evening.
The Light Walk will start at 7pm from Tweed Green, opposite Leckie Church, where participants will walk with lanterns- either brought from home or made at the workshop.
The walk will start from Tweed Green, then via the Three Bridges and back to Leckie Church and last roughly an hour.
The aim of the light walk is to “symbolise solidarity, hope and, and the shared desire for peace in a time of global uncertainty”.
The final part of the evening will be The Light a Candle for the World from 8pm until midnight at Leckie Church, where attendees can light a candle for “any crises or difficulties in the world”.
The church will be open until midnight for candle lighting, prayer and reflection.
