A 26-YEAR-OLD man who made arrangements to meet a 15-year-old girl for the purposes of sexual activity has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Alasdair Saunders, from Stow, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened in July.

Prosecutor India MacLean said Saunders had communicated with the girl on Snapchat and arranged to meet her at the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels on July 28.

The girl told her mother about the conversation and she also attended at the meeting point.

When Saunders saw the mother was in attendance he drove off in his car.

The mother reported the matter to the police.

Saunders pleaded guilty to a charge of communicating with a person he knew was under 16 and making arrangements to meet intending to engage in unlawful sexual activity and attempting to meet her.

A not guilty plea to intentionally sending a teenage girl a written sexual communication was accepted by the Crown.

Sentence has been deferred until December 9 for the production of background reports and Saunders was made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act.

The length of the order will be confirmed at the sentencing diet.
