STEALING two quantities of scrap metal from two properties in the Borders has resulted in a Tyne and Wear man being ordered to pay a total of £380 at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
Twenty-seven-year-old Reece Todd pleaded guilty to the theft of two water tanks and a quantity of scrap metal from the garden of a house in Kings Croft, Kelso, on February 15.
Later that day he stole a car battery and a quantity of scrap metal from the garden of a house in Priory Bank, Coldstream.
Defence lawyer Ross Dow said that the scrap metal was in open view but admitted his client made no enquiry about its availability and accepted it was there for general collection.
Todd, of Whitehill Road, Houghton-Le-Spring, was fined £180 on both charges with a £20 victim surcharge added.
A warrant was issued for his co-accused Liam Blackburn, 30, of Easington Lane, Houghton-le-Spring.
