PEEBLES Bridge Club is on the search for new members.
The appeal comes following a decline in local players since the Coronavirus pandemic.
A spokesperson said: “As with many clubs and institutions, Peebles Bridge Club has suffered from the effects of the Covid pandemic and continues to do so.
“Before 2020 the club enjoyed a membership of about 120 who met twice weekly to enjoy meeting friends and playing bridge in a friendly atmosphere.
“The club encouraged new members to come along and learn how to play bridge; it was a great introduction to a fascinating game.
“Once the pandemic struck, face to face games had to stop and we were fortunate that we were able to move our bridge playing to an online platform, this kept us in touch with our card playing friends as well as allowing us to continue our enjoyment of the game which is mentally stimulating.
“As Covid restrictions eased we were able to resume playing face to face which we do on a Thursday evening.
“Many of our members enjoyed the online games so much that we have continued with our online tournaments once a week.
“Over the past two years or so our face to face tournaments have been held weekly at the Peebles Golf Club who have provided a welcoming and friendly base; we recognised that this could only be a temporary home.
“However, we felt that it was important to try and find a permanent base and soon we will move to the Drill Hall in Peebles which provides all the facilities that we need to enjoy the game in a comfortable environment.
“Since 2020 our membership has fallen to 77 and we would like to encourage others who have always wanted to learn the game to come along and give it a try.
“Our membership includes players at all levels of the game from beginners to experts who are willing to provide lessons to prospective members; many of our current members have joined and learned through this route.
“Whilst all members pay a nominal sum each evening any lessons provided will be free.
“Our club is well resourced, we have all the equipment that we need to help us enjoy the game and participate in local tournaments as well as regional or national ones.
“Members can commit as much time as they wish to this very interesting pastime.
“Players of the game find that it is endlessly challenging and stimulating which is why they love it so much.
“So if you have always thought that you would like to learn how to play bridge but have never had the inclination nor time, then now you have the chance to give it a go, hopefully you will never look back.
“This really is a game for all ages, so don’t be shy, you will be sure of a friendly welcome whether you are looking to learn the game or have some experience and just want to play.
“We play online every Monday evening and face to face every Thursday evening, both at 7pm.
