MOTORISTS have been warned of closures on a major Borders road as improvement works go ahead.

Sections of the A68 near Ravenswood and Carfraemill are set to be worked on, according to officials.

The road north of Ravenswood roundabout will be closed in both directions between 7.30pm and 6am from Monday, November 25 to Friday, November 29, and on Monday, December 2. A diversion route will be signposted between Earlston and St Boswells via the A6105, A6089, Kelso and the A699.

It is expected to add 35 minutes onto affected journeys.

The A68 will then be closed in both directions between the same times south of Carfraemill roundabout from December 3-6 and December 9-13, and on December 16.

Motorists will be diverted via the A697, A6089 and A6105, adding around 10 minutes to journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A68 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
