A 26-YEAR-OLD man who admitted a total of 14 offences has been remanded in custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court for a psychiatric report to be prepared.

Jay John Scott previously pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman at a flat in the Borders on October 8, 2022.

While engaging in sexual intercourse he grabbed her by the neck and restricted her breathing all to her injury.

He also obstructed two police officers on the same day and lashed out with his arms.

Scott also admitted assaulting two staff members at The Bourtree in Hawick on November 4 last year.

He was arrested on a warrant after failing to turn up at a previous court hearing.

Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said his client suffered mental health difficulties which had yet to be diagnosed and called for a psychiatric assessment to be carried out before sentencing.

Sheriff Peter Paterson agreed to the request but said he had little confidence in Scott, formerly of Hawick but who gave an address in Bannerfield Drive, Selkirk, attending the next hearing so remanded him in custody.

The case will recall at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on November 18.
