A BORDERS takeaway has won a top prize at the Scottish Fish and Chip Awards.
Alfonso’s in Earlston picked up a gong in the Best Chip Shop South category this week.
Posting on social media, the Alfonso’s team said: “We are extremely proud to have won the award and thank everyone for voting for us.
“Your continued support helps us grow, thank you for being amazing customers.”
The awards were handed out at a ceremony at Glasgow’s Double Tree Hilton on Monday night.
The event, organised by Paramount Creative, celebrates the finest fish and chips across Scotland with judges travelling across the country making unannounced visits.
Shops were nominated by customers and then judges sampled fish and chips at each location.
The stores were evaluated on many factors including the quality of the fish, the taste, freshness, value, authenticity and innovation.
Warren Paul, Paramount CEO, said: “Each year we celebrate the very best in what has always been the classic takeaway – fish and chips.
“We evaluate fish and chip shops in tiny villages and bustling cities alike, sending judges to every single entrant, whether they’re just two minutes away from our office or hours away by ferry on a remote island.
“Our rigorous judging criteria ensure fairness and consistency, giving us full confidence that our winners truly are the best.
“A win or even a highly recommended nod from us is a seal of approval you can trust – our winners’ success speaks for itself year after year.”
