AN 86-YEAR-OLD man has admitted shouting and swearing and uttering offensive remarks after his mobility scooter had been vandalised.
Frederick Hornsey could be heard by neighbours being abusive towards Scottish people in Bannerfield Drive, Selkirk, during the early hours of September 25.
Selkirk Sheriff Court was told Hornsey appeared intoxicated and was unsteady on his feet while shouting homophobic remarks.
Defence lawyer Ross Dow said his client drank too much and had been upset that someone had poured paint over his mobility scooter and the police appeared not to be doing anything about it.
He added that Hornsey was about to leave the Borders and set up home in Chichester, West Sussex.
The pensioner was fined £250 with a £20 victim surcharge after admitting a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.
