A GALASHIELS man who admitted a drink driving offence has been banned from the road for 16 months at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Forty-one-year-old Alan Young gave a breath/alcohol reading of more than five times the legal alcohol limit when police officers caught up with him at his Halliburton Place home on April 17.

But defence lawyer Ross Dow explained his client had consumed wine after he had returned from his car journey from Borders General Hospital.

However, he accepted Young would have been over the alcohol limit at the time of driving.

In addition to the disqualification period, he was fined £400 with a £20 victim surcharge.
