A BORDERS ice rink and swimming club are among eight sports clubs to receive an Aldi cash boost.
Aldi Scotland has given £7,000 to eight organisations across the South of Scotland as part of its annual Scottish Sport Fund initiative.
Border Ice Rink Trust and Eyemouth & District Amateur Swimming Club were the two clubs in the region to receive funds.
Border Ice Rink Trust has been awarded £1,000 while the swim club was granted £500.
The initiative is part of the supermarket’s commitment to promoting a healthier Scotland by supporting community sports clubs.
Throughout the year, local teams from different regions across Scotland are invited to apply for funding.
Out of the eight clubs, Southwest Amateur Boxing Club was awarded the highest funding amount of £2,500 in the south of Scotland.
Elsewhere, the Stranraer Coastal Rowing Club also received £1,000.
Drongan United Grassroots, Newton Stewart Ladies FC, Magnum Figure Skating, and Ardrossan Academicals RFC were each given £500.
Since the Scottish Sport Fund was introduced in 2016, almost 600 clubs across Scotland have benefited from the fund, which has now reached more than £400,000.
Graham Nicolson, group buying director at Aldi Scotland, said: "Since 2016, Aldi’s Scottish Sport Fund has given a wide range of sports clubs the chance to benefit from essential funding to help them invest in much-needed equipment and resources.
"It’s humbling to see how much of a difference extra funding can make to clubs like Southwest Amateur Boxing Club and in supporting people across Scotland to lead an active and healthy lifestyle."
