POLITICIANS have visited the site of the new Peebles High School to view the building and the new community facilities.
After changes to the design, made following consultation with parents and others within the school community, the new building is set to cost £61 million and will have capacity for approximately 1,200 pupils.
Tweeddale MP David Mundell, local councillor Julie Pirone, and South of Scotland MSP Craig Hoy last week toured the site of the new-build Peebles High School.
Following his visit, Mr Mundell said: "The new building looks absolutely fantastic and it was great to see the progress that has been made over the past few months.
"It’s been a long road to this point following the dreadful fire damage to the existing school back in November 2019 but, all going to plan, this time next year local pupils will be settling into this fantastic new building with its state-of-the-art facilities."
The new building is expected to be ready by October 2025, with demolition of the old school taking place as a second phase of the project.
Ms Pirone said on the project: "Work on the new school is continuing at pace and it was amazing to get inside and see the development of that work and the design.
"It will be an amazing learning facility for our young people, and I can’t wait to see it completed.”
