RESENTMENT over the sale of a puppy that was not being walked properly led to an assault in Chirnside, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.

Thirty-one-year-old Michael Tweedie pleaded guilty to punching his neighbour on his head to his injury in the Berwickshire village on April 25.

Prosecutor India MacLean explained Tweedie had sold the dog to the man but had been told it was not being exercised properly.

She added that when he saw him in the street he reacted and punched him which caused bruising to his face.

Sentence was deferred until December 16 for background reports.
