A GROUP of greyhounds and lurchers took a leisurely stroll along the Tweed Valley railway path.

The walk, which took place on Sunday in Innerleithen, was organised by the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary.

It was postponed in October due to Storm Ashley but went ahead after Bert’s snow had disappeared.

The group included both fostered hounds searching for permanent homes and those already settled with families.

Anyone interested in volunteering or finding out more about the sanctuary can visit the website or follow their Facebook page.

Greyhounds, known for their speed, are also noted for their love of home comforts, often needing just a couple of short walks and sleeping for up to 18 hours a day.

Lurchers, a cross between any type of sighthound and other breeds, tend to be more active but also enjoy relaxing.

On Sunday, the lurchers chose a longer trek over the hill, while the greyhounds preferred a more relaxed route back along the railway path.

The Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary has been rescuing hounds since 2008 and is always keen to welcome new volunteers.

More walks in the Borders are planned for the new year.
