SCOTTISH Borders Council has “multiple posts” available as its seeks to bolster its bin collection team following a series of service failures.
The local authority has advertised for applications to become waste operative drivers.
The recruitment drive comes after heavy disruption in its waste collection service over recent months, with vehicle breakdown and a lack of staff cited among the reasons for the problems faced.
The new drivers would operate from the Easter Langlee refuse tip in Galashiels and the 37-hour contract attracts an annual salary of between £26,283.60 and £27,595.51.
A council spokesperson said: “We are looking to recruit to a number of permanent HGV cover driving posts. You will be joining a busy, skilled and supportive local team delivering a critical public service.
“The roles will be driving a mixture of vehicles on a variety of routes around the region. Although the main duty is driving, part of the role involves working with the crew to empty bins, and in periods of low service sickness levels you may be asked to carry out other duties including bag and bin deliveries and loading.
“We are looking for drivers that can make the difference, always looking to get the job done. You will be a good team worker with the ability to work within your own crew, but also happy to help others in meeting the service’s daily frontline duties.”
