A WEATHER warning for ice has been issued for the Borders tonight.

The alert is in place from 9pm until 10am on Wednesday and covers the whole of the region.

The Met Office said that untreated ice could cause some travel disruption and increased “chance of accidents”.

A spokesperson for the Met office said: “A band of rain and snow will move east across Scotland this afternoon and evening (which could lead to some lying snow on higher transport routes).

“Once this clears temperatures will quickly fall during Tuesday evening and ice is likely to form readily on untreated surface during the evening and overnight into Wednesday morning.”

They added: "Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.

"If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated."
