A BEACH in Moray has been named the best in Scotland after The Times and Sunday Times revealed their picks for the best seaside spots in the UK.
The beach came out on top in the Scotland category, beating out a number of popular spots in places across the country.
The Times also released its top 50 UK beaches for 2023, seeing Weymouth in Dorset crowned the best in the whole of the UK.
The top spots were picked by The Times and Sunday Times readers, seeing these spots judged by experts.
Those picks were then assessed using the rigorous 11-point checklist.
Chris Haslam, chief travel writer at the Times and Sunday Times, said: “As families flock to the British coastlines this summer, and tourists migrate to more northerly latitudes, beaches in Britain could be on the cusp of a new golden age.
"This is the most comprehensive and detailed beach guide available, and the only one in which every stretch of sand, pebbles or shingle has been physically inspected within the past eight weeks.
"The weather was magnificent throughout, and when the sun is shining - our beaches are the most beautiful on earth."
Findhorn in Moray named the best beach in Scotland by The Times and Sunday Times for 2023
Findhorn Beach in Moray was named the best coastal spot in Scotland by The Times and Sunday Times.
The seven-mile beach was praised for its long stretch of sandy coastline which was said to provide "scenic walks" with second-to-none whale, porpoise, osprey, seal and dolphin-watching spots.
Those who visited agreed with this assessment with 364 reviewers on Google Reviews giving it a 4.8 out of 5.
One beachgoer said: "One of my favourite places to visit with the dogs. Easy walk, can be as long and short as you want it to be. Nothing better than a sunny walk and a beautiful beach, especially one with loads of seals visible across the bay."
Another added: "Beautiful stretch of beach, lovely beach huts to rent/buy and not far from the harbour and marina areas.
"Restaurants, ice cream shops and pubs nearby a short walk from the parking area."
