TOUGH-tackling defender Sean Guiney is the latest player to make the six-miles voyage along the A7 from Yarrow Park to Netherdale.
And the 21-year-old from Edinburgh believes he, and his new club, will hold up well in this season’s Lowland League.
Guiney spent two turbulent seasons, which saw him twice slapped onto the transfer window, under Steve Forrest at Selkirk.
But the centre-half believes happier times lie ahead following the switch.
Sean told us: “I knew I was leaving Selkirk for some time but I saw the season out.
“They are a good set of lads over there but it wasn’t working for me and I needed a move.
“I’m really happy to be at Gala - I trained for a few weeks and got to know everyone before I signed, it wasn’t a difficult decision.” Guiney made an impressive debut in a Fairydean Rovers shirt last Tuesday evening in a bounce game.
And he again featured strongly in Saturday’s match with Cowdenbeath.
Sean added: “The set up here at Gala is excellent, it’s really professional.
“I believe we can do well in the Lowland League this season - the aim is to finish higher than last year and we can do that.” Also making their debuts in last week’s bounce game were Ian Chalmers, Taylor Hope, Daryl Burdett, Derek Foley and Mark Wilson.
Hope scored a double against the amateur opponents with Lee Stephen, Jamie Gibson, Dean McColm and Callum jardine also finding the net in the 6-2 victory.
