EXCITING new Selkirk signing Kayde Reynolds is relishing life with the semi-pros.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season with North Berwick – helping them to the amateur league title and the South Cup final.
But he admits stepping up to the Lowland League has been an eye-opener.
Reynolds told the Border Telegraph: “I’m not used to all of the training but I am feeling better for it.
“It’s like a completely new game with all the team talks, tactics and professionalism – but it’s been great so far.
“The pace is a lot quicker, there’s a lot more skill involved and you are sent onto the pitch with a plan.
“I knew a couple of players who were at Selkirk when I was with North Berwick like Mark Samson and James Harley and they spoke highly of the set up. When Steve (Forrest) spoke to me about his vision for the club and how I fitted into his plans I was completely sold.” Reynolds made his mark as a defender with North Berwick last season.
But he is also regarded as a skilful midfield player with plenty of pace.
Manager Forrest told us: “Kayde is still young and improving all the time. He has the ability to play in almost any position and is a real prospect for the future.” Kayde was part of a summer squad of over 20 players who trained on and around Arthur’s Seat throughout June.
Amongst the first to welcome the teenager to the club was captain Garry O’Connor.
Kayde added: “My mum and Garry’s wife are friends so we sort of knew each other before I came.
“Garry was great as he took me in to meet all the players and they have all made me feel really welcome.
“We haven’t been great in pre-season and we’ve made a few mistakes but each week the team is getting better and we’re getting closer to what Steve wants from us.
“I don’t know how well we’ll do in the Lowland League but we have some top quality players here and I think we’ll be hard to beat.”
